Does a valid IBAN mean the account exists?
No. MOD-97 validates the format and checksum only. It cannot confirm ownership, account status, or whether a transfer is safe.
Is the IBAN sent to another service?
No third-party validation API is used. With JavaScript enabled, validation happens in your browser; the server fallback processes the form without storing the IBAN.
Why does the checker know each country's length?
IBAN countries publish fixed national lengths. The checker applies that registry before calculating the checksum.
